APSU-HOPSA in joint Virtual Library Project PDF Print E-mail
Image Up to 400 past students of St. Augustine’s College and Holy Child School, alongside some current students undertook a 2-hour health walk in Accra on Saturday as part of activities lined up to raise GH 500,000 cedis in aid of a joint virtual library project.
The walk which had the Ghana Army Brass Band in attendance begun at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), and was routed through the Ring-Road, through Osu Oxford Street, through Osu Lokko road, past the Conference Centre, past the Ridge round about and back to the starting point.

In a brief speech after the walk, Mr. Richard Baffour, Chief Executive Officer of JOBSINGHANA and the project consultant, noted that the virtual library is designed to move education away from existing one-way delivery approach, to a more qualitative, participatory and reciprocal one. He stressed that, “the e-library would open up the educational system by democratizing the process of obtaining knowledge, resulting in a more efficient organization of students’ cognitive activities”. Adding that, “It would also provide the students a wider access range to knowledge and information via the internet, TV, satellite, cable network and digital media”.

Mr. Baffour further explained that the project is estimated at GH 500,000 cedis and will be financed mainly by past students who will be expected to contribute a minimum of GH 50 cedis each. The project, he concluded, is earmarked for completion by September 2008.

Mrs. Magdalene Appenteng, Accra Branch President of HOPSA on her part commended the old students for taking part in the walk and announced that the virtual library project will formally be outdoored at the impending APSU-HOPSA fundraising dinner dance which comes off at the La Palm Hotel on Saturday, December 7th, 2007. Mrs. Appenteng called on all APSUNIANS and HOPSANS to contribute towards the project.
